Sam had his first post-transplant biopsy procedure this morning. This is where we'll get a clear idea of what's going on in his bone marrow. They are looking for things like: are the new white cells (and others) we've seen from his daily "counts" coming from the new transplanted cells (good) or Sam's old cells? (not as good.) Is there residual leukemia in his blood? If so, how much? If not, great! Instead of going into all the hypotheticals, I'll make sure to post an update on the results later this week and what it means for treatment options and prognosis.
In other news, Sam's eating is slowly improving but it has been a long, frustrating road, especially for someone with very little weight on reserve. Yesterday was the first time he's been able to keep anything down besides cream of wheat and mandarin oranges. So we're happy with the progress but we can't wait for it to pick up and get the hell out of the hospital! Once he can eat and his pain is under control from some other post-chemo related issues, he will be discharged and able to continue recovery from the condo in Madison and just go into the clinic for treatments and check-ups. Due to needing to be hooked back up to his IV pole, Sam was unable to get out on pass this weekend. So we pretty much just watched football, took a few short walks around the floor, tried eating (i.e. tried not puking), played cards (first time he's had the energy for that in a while!), daydreamed about XC skiing this winter, and hung out. More updates soon. Love from 636, Jenny Comments are closed.
